Music! Music! Music!
We had a most enjoyable afternoon hosting Chris Jacobson and his incredibly talented students. I even got to play along with Chis and Bruce et al which is always a treat. It’s always a great relaxed afternoon with a low key vibe to help some amazing new talent spread their wings in a non stressed environment. Chris’ students perform with an instant backing band without a prior run through and all rise to the occasion. Tonya Norris is pictured playing in the photo (the only chance I had to leave the stage) and she didn’t need bass and drum backing for her beautiful classical piece.
We hosted many amazing performers at this year’s verandah festival. Matt and Anna played a lovely set as the rain came down and we appreciated why they invented verandahs in the first place. The change in performance angle basically meant I became transfixed by Anna’s left had on the bodhran and started wondering why drummers need all those other bits and pieces to get such a funky groove.
The Stranded Wailers sang up a storm with ample support from the audience. The photos don’t quite give the right impression but I’m sure that the deck was heaving and hawing under the influence of mighty high seas as the sails ripped and the timbers creaked and the deck tossed… might have had a red wine or two. (sorry, that should have been rum)
