A blooming good day in the garden

While weeding away at a frantic pace, (the only way to keep up at this time of the year) it’s great to look up from time to time and see what is blooming. It has been a busy few years in the garden, planting flowers, trees, hedges, wind breaks and native shrubbery to entice the native bird life. Some old trees have had to go but they have been replaced by many more plants. Holes and cuttings have been filled in, paths have been carved into banks flanked by all kinds of diverse and interesting plants. We still have an old pond which is waiting to be transformed into a meandering stream and our formal garden is on it’s way. So much has been done and it is definitely a lesson in patience, waiting for nature to do it’s thing, but every day the garden is looking better.

Spring 2022. After a long wet winter, everything is starting to grow, especially the weeds but there is still time to stop and enjoy the sight of the newly opened flowers.

The roses are blooming! Spring has sprung! A couple of years ago this space was just grass. I reckon in another year or two, once the hedges have grown, we will no longer be able to see the old railway station in the background and the whole garden will have a more enclosed intimate feel, perfect for hosting a garden wedding.

The roses are starting to bloom! Now we’re just waiting for the clematis and a crop of apricots. All should be looking very colourful in time for the Verandah Festival later this month.

My little guy is still picking away on top of the “leaning tower of Peter.” After a couple of decades outdoors he is becoming suitably weathered and covered in lichen, a perfect metaphor for my own banjo playing prowess.
